Version 1.12
- Added many new magic items (thanks to Robert J. Enters).
- Added the Commander Class (thanks Silverfist).
- Added a few more monsters. Thanks to those who contributed.
- Further incemental improvements have been made to VADDCHAR.
Thanks to Mike Hermann for keeping us current.
- Between version 1.04 and version 1.10 the VAST.EXE program stopped
passing the backup key information to the utility programs (Auto
Spell, Sword Maker, etc.) This has been repaired.
Version 1.11
- A bug in version 1.03 of the BUILDER caused over 30 of the magic
items in Version 1.1 to have the level associated with them as 8 in
the keyword search database when this should not have been the case, so
keyword searches would retrieve erroneous results. These magic
item's keyword database entries have been repaired.
NOTE: Version 1.04 of the BUILDER has this problem fixed.
- When browsing a spell in Auto Spell, the information line at the
bottom had missing information as to the purpose of the various function
keys. This happened when issuing calls to the help function from
almost everywhere. Both these problems have been fixed.
Thank you Erik Beavais for pointing this out.
- Corrected a display bug in the automatic dice roller which left some
unsightly text behind when rolling one of each.
Thanks Erik Beauvais for bringing this to my attention.
- Corrected a minor bug in the allocation of Weapon Proficiencies in
VADDChar. We've also upgraded to version 2.2 of ADDCHAR.
Thanks to Mike Hermann for keeping us current.
- In the process of optimizing the keyword search capability of the TOME
I accidentally removed the capability of searching for zero level
spells (cantrips). This has been fixed with no loss of speed.
Thank you Mitchell Bissonette for bringing this to my attention.
- Added capability to use keyword searches for 10th level spells.
Thank you Mitchell Bissonette for the suggestion.
Version 1.1 { Major revision }
- Micheal Hermann has graciously allowed me to include a very slightly
customized version of his 2nd Ed. character generator program ADDCHAR.
Kudos to Mike for developing such a great program, and thanks for
letting me include it here.
- Major overhaul of Auto Spell - It will now track/create spellbooks
as well as NPC spell lists.
Many thanks to all who made suggestions, specifically Brent Hughes &
Udo Wagner (who also supplied the LATEX code).
- Increased speed of Auto Spell's random spell list generation by
about 100% (it's still too slow, but it's better).
- Fixed bug which would allow specialist wizard spell lists generated
with Auto Spell to have spells from opposition schools.
- Modified VAST.EXE's shell capability. Formerly when shelling from the
TOME to run another program, about 175K of the TOME remained memory
resident. Now if sufficient XMS, EMS or Hard disk space is present the
TOME will swap all but 25K of itself out of memory so that the shelled
environment has about an extra 150K to run programs in.
- Fixed a bug in the device-independent printing system which caused
Postscript printing to fail whenever a '(' or a ')' was encountered in
a text or when the first character in a line was boldface, to accomodate
these patches all the printer drivers were slightly modified.
- Substantial overhaul of the NPC Maker - adding statistics such as
THAC0/Saving throws/Spells/Thieving Skills.
- Corrected a bug in the NPC maker that handled NPC's Ages incorrectly.
- Corrected a bug in the NPC Maker that caused Bards to have far too few
hit points.
- Made modifications to the NPC Maker so that every NPC fighter wouldn't
be proficient with 5 different types of pole arms just because there
are more pole arms than other kinds of weapons. Weapon distribution is
now weighted towards more common weapons.
Thank you Brent Hughes for suggesting this.
- Added an automatic monster hoard generation utility to which the
gemologist is now a subordinate part. Both the hoard generator and
the gemologist can generate treasure for 1st. Ed., 2nd Ed., or Dark
Sun rules. (1st Ed. is the default.)
Thank you Robert K. Wright III for suggesting the Hoard Generator.
- Added the option to reroll a die roll (on the built-in dice roller) by
pressing the spacebar. Thank you Patrick Phalen for this suggestion.
- Added many new Classes/Kits (most pilfered from the
Complete.Net.Handbook.) Thank you all contributors (and especially Joe
Delisle for compiling the CNH.)
- Added a few more monsters (thank you Johm M. Martz)
- Added several new non-weapon proficiencies (Thank you all contributors)
Version 1.04
- Fixed a bug which, under rare circumstances caused VAST.EXE to
decompress database index files incorrectly resulting in funny
looking text in a search menu.
Thank you Brent Hughes for bringing this to my attention.
- Added an option (See Appendix B of the VASTDOCS.TXT file) to allow the
use of a key other than F10 to escape from menus, data input, etc.
In response to a request from numerous individuals who wanted to use
the <ESC> key instead of the <F10> key.
- Added an option to print to FILE instead of a printer.
Thank you Brian D. Philips (and others) for this suggestion.
- Fixed a bug which would have strenght bonuses carry over to NPC's that
according to their strength should have none.
Thank you Brent Hughes for pointing this out.
- Changed the setup program so you can edit an external program entry
instead of having to delete it and then add a new one.
Thank you Erik Beauvais for the suggestion.
- Revised the manual in an attempt to make it conform with the
program's freeware status and the current state of the databases
shipped with the program.
- Added a few more magic items (thank you all for your contributions).
- Added the Net.Monster.Manual (thank you all the contributors to the
NMM).
Version 1.03
- Corrected bug which prevented auto selection of the correct
printer driver.
Thank you Brian D. Philips for pointing this out.
- Corrected bug in the laserjet printer driver which caused it to try
and print 66 lines/page where only 60 would fit.
Thank you Brian D. Philips for pointing this out.
- Added a few more magic items (thank you all for your contributions).
Version 1.02
- Corrected minor bug which precluded use of the gemologist program.
Thank you Jeff Langston for catching this and telling me.
Version 1.01
- Added custom sided dice to the built-in dice roller.
Thank you, Matt McMaster (mcmaster@stsci.edu) for the suggestion.
- Added display of each die's value when 8 or less are rolled.
Thank you, Matt McMaster (mcmaster@stsci.edu) for the suggestion.
- Many revisions to Auto Spell, including 2nd Ed. specialist wizards.
Thank you (too many names to print here) for the suggestion.
- Added the Great Net PrayerBook Spells database.
Thank you, the many contributors to the GNPB.
- Added many unique magic items, thank you Net AD&Der's for the
contributions.
- Added some Kits/Classes.
- Added some nonweapon proficiencies.
- Added some prominent Net.Rule.Supplements.
- Corrected bug which caused keyword search results to be sorted
incorrectly.
- 1.0 would not report any error if one of the utility programs (VNPC.EXE,
VSWORDS, etc.) could not be run, it would simply refuse to run it.
This has now been fixed.
- Included ARMOR.DAT, SWORDS.DAT and WEAPONS.DAT files accidentally
not included in version 1.0.
Version 1.0 - March 3rd 1993
- The TOME of VAST KNOWLEDGE is released upon an unsuspecting world.
- 2 Databases included - Great Net Spell Book 5, Net Monstrous Compendium
Thank you, the many contributers to these 2 NET books.
